Nancy Cruden Retires in July 2016 after 44 years working at Glendoick's world famous rhododendron nursery.
Glendoick's longest serving employee Nancy Cruden will hang up her gardening gloves in July 2016 after an amazing 44 years of packing plants, planting, weeding, potting and looking after the growing stock of plants for Glendoick’s mail order nursery and garden centre.
“I can’t remember the date I started but I know that it was the first week of April 1972, ‘’ says Nancy (60).
She moved to Glendoick with her parents Jim and Pearl from Peterhead in 1971, with Jim employed as a nursery worker.
Nancy worked at Pullars of Perth after leaving school but soon joined her father at Glendoick. Their particular responsibility was to tie, wrap and package up all the dozens of plants sent to customers all over the UK and the rest of the world.
When Jim retired Nancy took lone responsibility for this task and virtually every rhododendron collection in the world has plants which Nancy has carefully packed and sent off. The nursery’s managing director Kenneth Cox said:
“Nancy’s skill in the packing shed is unmatched both in speed and accuracy, as thousands of customers can testify. They regularly send us messages of thanks from all over the world praising Nancy’s packing skills.
“Nancy’s role has been of huge importance for Glendoick and we are more than a little worried what we’ll do when she leaves.
Nancy is going off on holiday to the borders with her partner Andy when she retires for a well earned break. A lunch in her honour will be held in her honour on her last day of work.
