Glendoick Secure LEADER funding

We are delighted to announce that we have secured a £30K support grant from Rural Perth & Kinross LEADER Programme 2014-2020: The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas. Ken and Jane Cox, our owners, have match-funded the balance of the £60K project which will see an outdoor playpark and indoor soft play area installed right here in the Glendoick Garden Centre ground.

The outdoor playpark, which will be opened officially on 10th June by John Swinney MSP, will be suitable for children up to approx. age 12 and will be free to use for the local community and visitors to the area.  As well as housing traditional climbing and swinging structures, particular attention has been paid to access, layout, ground surface and sensory zones which are especially important for children with additional needs.

Jane commented, “When we set out to build a park in the Carse, a key objective was to create something that could be enjoyed by children of all ages and all abilities.  We were very encouraged therefore, when our research amongst local parents showed unequivocally that this was something desperately needed in the area.

Securing the Leader grant has allowed us to take our idea to fruition whilst ensuring the playpark remains free to use for the local community and charitable groups such as Perth Autism and Downs Syndrom Scotland in Perth. We’re very excited about the official opening and hope as many local people as possible turn out to enjoy the celebrations at our annual Summer Fete Weekend.”

John Swinney MSP, Deputy First Minister for Scotland, will officially open the park on 10th June at Glendoick’s Summer Fete weekend.

Mr Swinney commented, “ I am delighted to have been asked to open this fantastic facility. Glendoick have done an excellent job in getting their new park ready for the summer season. I am sure that children – of all ages – who visit the Garden Centre will be excited to try out the new park as soon as it opens.  Leader funding is crucial to projects such as this and it’s encouraging to see it being used to benefit the Carse of Gowrie area.”

Explaining the importance of the Rural Perth & Kinross LEADER support, local Perth & Kinross Chairperson for Leader, Jackie Brierton said, “The award of £30K towards this community project is one of a number of benefitting from a portion of £3.8 million of LEADER and Scottish Government funds available for the development of rural communities and rural enterprise until 2020 in Perthshire. It is a fantastic opportunity for the local community and we are pleased we have been able to support it.”
