Collection of 16 WOODLAND RHODODENDRON HYBRIDS

Woodland hybrids are, as the name suggests, best in woodland or woodland-like conditions (such as a sheltered town garden) to protect flowers, foliage and/or early or late growth. In milder and west coast gardens they can be grown in more open sites, with some wind shelter. Some of the classiest and most famous hybrids are in this category. 

ALADDIN Med-Tall H3-4  pink scented late, July.

ARGOSY, Tall, L White scented flowers, July. Tree forming spectacular, 

CAPTAIN JACK H4 Tall L Amongst the finest reds of all: blood red, late. Rather sparse and untidy when young but fills out with age. Large pale leaves. Needs light shade.

CREST H3-4 Tall ML The classic yellow with pure unspotted flowers. Tall, best with some wind shelter. Hard to propagate and rarely offered. A good plant for woodland gardens.

ETTA BURROWS H4 Med EM-M superb red with bristly foliage.

FABIA H3-4 Low-Med ML Orange-salmon, in loose trusses. Best with some shelter.

LEM'S CAMEO H3-4 Low M Apricot, cream and pink, spotted red, frilly. Needs fertiliser and some shelter.

LEO H4 Tall L Rich scarlet in May-June. Fairly compact. Rothschild hybrid.

POLAR BEAR H3-4 Tall VL * Scented white in July-August. Best in light shade with wind shelter.

POTLATCH H3-4 Med M  long lasting pinkish red, busy and very attractive.

RED & GOLD (CORNUBIA VARIEGATED) H3 Med EM-M Pinkish-red. Leaves with spectacular bold yellow variegation.

SHILSONII Group H3-4 Tall E-EM (barbatum x thomsonii) Red, fine foliage.

SIR CHARLES LEMON H3 Tall EM  White in April. Outstanding foliage plant, reddish indumentum. Takes some years to flower.

THOR H4 Low, M Long lasting bright red in loose trusses. Good in some shade.

VANESSA PASTEL H3-4 Low ML Irresistible cream flushed pink, red throat. Compact.

WITCHERY H4 Tall L  Pure red, late. New growth silvery. Really fine.
